We're back with lots of exciting news that we can't wait to share with you. In addition to new interviews, studio visits, and inspiring artists, this week we want to let you know that we'll soon be opening a new international collage exhibition.
Since 2011, with TWS, we've produced and curated 15 exhibitions around the world (London, Berlin, Madrid, Barcelona, Trondheim, Montreal, Lima, and the list goes on), showcasing what we believe is the 'new wave of collage.' These are the artists who, from various artistic practices, engage openly with their work to create a connection and disruption with the history of collage, actively participating in its redefinition as a practice.
In this case, alongside the great D. Dominick Lombardi, we'll be inaugurating our 16th exhibition in Cortland, New York: 'Altered Logistics. Contemporary Collage and Appropriation Art.
A new TWS exhibition coming! Altered Logistics
Altered Logistics: Contemporary Collage and Appropriation Art will be at The Dowd Gallery, SUNY Cortland from October 30 – December 8, 2023.
Presented by The Weird Show. Curated by D. Dominick Lombardi and Máximo Tuja.
As a method of creating art, collage has been gaining in popularity and importance since the early 1910’s. With ensuing generations, and right up to the time of this writing, collage has evolved into many forms, most recently digital collage, adding to its exposure and understanding as a prominent form of visual expression.
For this exhibition, we selected over 50 artists to represent a multi-national overview of the state and the influence of collage in Contemporary Art. In thinking about the selection process, we primarily chose art and artists that push both the boundaries of what one sees as the theory of collage, while still maintaining a clear link to the basis of the genre. What is collage but an open, and at times random process built on the assembly of discordant pieces – a method of creatively juxtaposing visual elements that can be applied to all forms of expression from two dimensional art to filmmaking. We look for works of art that apply a fresh way of thinking and applying the ‘collective’ theory of collage or assemblage, especially the types of images or narratives that seep through the filter of unconscious aesthetics in profound ways.

Online: new Interviews and Studio visits!
As (almost) every week, we continue to publish new interviews and collage-related content that, if you're a fan of collage, we believe you should definitely check out. Here are some of the latest and greatest things we've released:
Andrea Burgay visits Paul Loughney studio.
“Viewing Paul Loughney’s works, we enter a world both mysterious, yet familiar. Symbols, characters, and forms repeat and come together, weaving stories that map realms of interior and external worlds. We visited Paul’s studio in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn to experience these portals in person and learn about their origins” introduces Andrea Burgay to us Paul Loughney's creative realm. We truly admire Andrea's approach to her interviews and studio visits! If you haven't read this one yet, you absolutely should. Paul's work is truly remarkable.
Oliver Lunn: Enjoying the constant looking
This last week we met London's Collage Maestro, Oliver Lunn to discover how he turns small details into the stars of his artwork and explore the secrets that lurk in the margins and the rewards for those who look closer. With this short interview we got to know tons of things about the person behind the instagram legend, @Moonloops101
