After a quiet week, we're back with more news and happenings at TWS.
Inspiration: double dose!
Over the past two Mondays, our correspondent in the future, Cless, has brought us two wonders.
The first is the work of artist Lucas Zanotto. Zanotto uses the most basic form of depicting eyes to bring everyday objects (both found and designed) to life, resulting in objects and sculptures full of humor, love, and beauty.
The second piece showcased is by artist UV-朱, who envisions footwear that prioritizes aesthetics over functionality, and uses materials that challenge conventional ideas of what a sneaker should be and how it should function.
Collage and Plants.
This week, we also talked to artist Kubi Vasak to learn more about the exhibition he's about to open in Sydney, Australia. We spoke with Vasak about his origins, how collage and design are fundamental parts of his life, and how plants became a way to change his work and bring some joy during the pandemic lockdown. Don't miss the full interview, read it here.
Lorenzo Petrantoni: Process
This week, we stumbled upon a video where Italian artist Lorenzo Petrantoni showcases the production process of one of his signature collages. I remember the first time I spoke with Petrantoni and learned that his work is largely done by hand, cutting and pasting photocopies that he makes himself from his collection of antique books. I couldn't believe it because everything is so perfect that it looks digital. But no, Lorenzo works with his hands.
Seeing the process puts his work on another level and allows us to give dimension to the attention to detail that this artist has.
TWS Bookshelf
We have two new books in our library these weeks.
The first one is a masterpiece by the geniuses Bäst and Paul Insect: The Rubbish Puppeteers.
And the second one is the wonderful Art Studio America, where we have the opportunity to get to know the workspaces of artists such as John Baldessari, Richard Prince, Raymond Pettibon, and Wagenchi Mutu, among others.
One more thing…
Speaking of John Baldessari, have you read the collage interview we did with him?
If you haven't, it's worth checking out.
That's all for now.
We hope you're doing well.
