Hey Weird Show friends!
Here’s the first letter from our mail club -that, let’s be honest, is a friendlier way to call a newsletter.
First of all, thanks for the support! It means a lot to us that you clicked all the buttons needed to receive this email. Really.
Second: We’re doing this because social media is not a good place for updates. To reach people either you have to spend A LOT of time there, or you have to pay. And neither of these two options sound like a plan for us…
So here we are, trying to find an easier and more direct way to let everyone who’s interested in our stuff what we have been up to lately. And it seems that an email might be a way. Let’s see how it works.
2020 has been a tough year for all of us. But at TWS 2020 was a comeback year after taking some time off to think about what and why we want to do what we do. So we came back with a great deal of enthusiasm and the desire to take the platform a step further, doing more in-depth interviews, researching the medium and connecting with artists and sharing ideas.
We will not recap the whole year, because so much has happened. But we will leave you some things in case you missed them.
1)
At the beginning of 2020, for the first time in our ten years history, we stopped to think how we got here and where we’re going… and we wrote it all down for you to know what we have in our minds. Read it if you missed it, because we’re still on a similar mindset.
2)
The lockdown chronicles: At the height (so far, at least) of the pandemic we interviewed artists about how they were living this new and unique situation that has affected the whole world in an unprecedented way.
3)
Our weekly interview! Almost every week (we’re human and took some days off) we published an interview with an artist, curator, writer or human being related somehow with collage. We tried real hard to show a wide variety of styles and ideas to show that collage is much more than paper and glue. This, this and this are some good examples of it. But take a look at our interview section and you’ll find plenty more.
4)
TWS Broadcast. We love podcasts, and we finally got to make one of our own. We have just released the fifth episode, with an interview to curator and writer Teri Henderson talking about her Black Collagists incubators. But we have four more episodes with amazing guest starts such as: artist Dennis Busch and curator and writer Francesca Gavin (ep.04), artist John Whitlock (ep.03), artist and designer Thomas Schostok (ep.02) and artist Alvaro Naddeo (ep.01).
If you haven’t listened to them yet, follow the links above or find it at apple podcasts, spotify, anchor or almost all the other podcast services.
Also:
Each Mail club letter will have a little treat for you, my friend. You'll have access for 1 week to the custom made collage (made by myself) illustrating this letter :) It's an 20x30cm 300 dpi file for you to print freely. If you want anyone to have it too, please ask them to suscribe to this club too :)
Here's the download link (active for 7 days)
I guess this is all for now.
This is the first one, so it’ll be the one with more info and text. Next ones should be shorter.
And don’t worry. This is bi-montly, so you won’t be hearing again from us in at least 60 days. And if you do miss us, please go to theweirdshow.info or ti our Instagram, and check all the latest news.
If you have any comment, please write us.
If you want to share your work with us, please use the #theweirdshowISM tag on instagram.
And, finally, if you like what we do, please support us by sharing, liking and all those contemporary types of social appreciation that we don’t like, but we do need to make our work be known by a wider audience.
Saludos from Barcelona!
Max
